Music by Yoni Avi Battat

This instrumental piece was inspired by a letter my grandfather wrote to my grandmother while she was living in Jerusalem and he was living in Connecticut with their four children. In the letter, my grandfather weaves seamlessly between Hebrew, Arabic, and even some English, often switching mid-sentence. He recounts a moment of witnessing his youngest child, my aunt Efrat, finding her own in her new life in America. The following is the excerpt that inspired this song:

אני‭ ‬עכשיו‭ ‬רואה‭ ‬את‭ ‬אפרת‭ ‬רוכבת‭ ‬על‭ ‬האופניים‭ ‬وصايرة‭ ‬شيخ‭ ‬الحارة

(Hebrew) I’m watching Efrat riding her bike
(Arabic) and she’s become the elder of the neighborhood.
